Guardian ad Litems – Strategy, Management, and Trial Practice

  • 2 Weeks

About

Guardian ad Litem involvement can shape the outcome of a custody case more than any other factor. Understanding how to strategically use, manage, and challenge a GAL is essential for any family law practitioner. This class provides a comprehensive, practice-focused approach to working with Guardians ad Litem from start to finish. You will learn when and why to request a GAL, how to properly present the request to the Court, and how to draft effective Motions and Orders for appointment. Beyond appointment, the class focuses heavily on real-world strategy, including how to guide your client through the GAL process, how to interact with the GAL professionally and effectively, and how to ensure your client is presenting well during the investigation. We will address common pitfalls that can damage a client’s position and how to proactively avoid them. You will also learn how to critically review a GAL report, identify strengths and weaknesses in the investigation, and determine how the report fits into your overall case strategy. A major component of this class is trial preparation and execution, including: • How to question a GAL when their recommendation supports your case • How to respectfully and effectively challenge a GAL when it does not • Techniques for exposing gaps, bias, or incomplete investigation ___________________ Want to take it a step further?
