About the Event

Alimony — Establishing, Modifying & Litigating Support Between Spouses

Alimony can be one of the most contested financial issues in a divorce. This class provides a practical framework for understanding how Georgia courts evaluate spousal support and how attorneys litigate and modify alimony awards.

We begin with the fundamentals of alimony, including the legal standards governing spousal support and the factors courts consider when determining whether alimony should be awarded and in what amount or duration. Participants will review how courts analyze financial need, ability to pay, and the overall financial circumstances of the parties.

The course then addresses modification of alimony, including the legal standard for demonstrating a substantial change in circumstances. Participants will learn how to initiate a modification action by drafting a Petition for Modification of Alimony, as well as how to properly request attorney’s fees.

The class also covers how to respond to an alimony modification…
